◊Our history

Soundbooks opened in 1982, and soon joined with Continental Bookshop which began in the Manchester Unity Building.

We moved from there to the quiet beautiful suburb of Malvern, where we remained for fifteen years.

The building was then slated for redevelopment, and we moved in 2007 to Glen Iris, the corner of Burke Road and Toorak Road (opposite the Epworth Rehabilitation Centre - formerly Cedar Court).

And in June 2012, the end-of-lease led us to move to a new location - an office/warehouse in Ringwood.

Do you still sell to the general public?

Yes, we certainly do! We can recommend audiobooks based on the authors or genres you like, as well as supply specific titles.
Seniors can ask for 10% discount on most titles*.

Can we visit your shop to pick up items in-store?

We've moved to an office-warehouse and no longer offer a shop front for in-store purchasing. However, we are always happy to email you with a list of in-stock titles or recommendations, to talk with you by phone about particular titles, and for customers in nearby suburbs we can offer same-day or next-day delivery for urgently-required in-stock titles, and fast order times for titles not in stock.
Depending upon the publisher, usual order time is between 4 and 7 days.

How much is postage and handling?

For ordes over $50, postage is free throughout Australia. Postage throughout Australia for orders under $50 is $5.**

Is there any way of receiving urgent orders the same day?

Yes - we do offer a priority hand-delivery service for customers within a reasonable vicinity of our location, usually no learlier than late afternoon or evenings. (Availability upon request and dependent upon title being in-stock and processed ready for despatch.)

How close is “a reasonable vicinity”?

It depends upon our schedule. The eastern suburbs of Melbourne are certainly fine, and we've gone out of our way to other areas for urgently required orders. Call us or email us to check.

* Exclusions apply to certain titles where we already offer best possible price or for hard-to-get titles where a net price is stipulated.

** Free postage or capped $5 postage may not apply to hard-to-find special orders (unless indicated at the time of placing the order) or for heavier items to more remote areas of Australia. Please do check at the time of placing your order, as our friendly staff will be able to let you know immediately.
